BRASILIA, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has called on the country's 13 presidential hopefuls and other candidates to submit detailed financial disclosures, local media reported on Tuesday.

The request aims "to provide the electoral process with the most transparency possible," the TSE said, according to the state-run Agencia Brasil.

Last year the TSE eliminated the detailed asset declaration in a bid to facilitate quick and easy access to information.

However, due to a sharp backlash from a public wary of graft, the TSE decided to reinstate the old system.

For 2014 elections, when declaring property, a candidate had to provide information on the value, size and address. This year that information was not required.

A total of 27,811 candidates have registered with the TSE for general elections in October.

The 13 presidential candidates have declared more than 834 million reals in assets, or 211 million U.S. dollars, most belonging to the two richest.

Joao Amoedo of the New Party declared 425 million reals (108 million U.S. dollars) while former finance minister Henrique Meirelles of the Brazilian Democratic Movement assets totaling 377.5 million reals (85 million U.S. dollars).

In this year's election, candidates are allowed to pay for their own campaigns, but must observe the spending limits of 70 million reals (17.7 million U.S. dollars) for the first round and 35 million reals (8.8 million U.S. dollars) for the runoff.
