MOSCOW, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin will pay visits to Azerbaijan and Tajikistan on Thursday and Friday, the Kremlin said in a statement on Wednesday.

On Thursday, Putin and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev will participate in the ninth Russian-Azerbaijani Interregional Forum, the statement said.

Another statement said that Putin later on Thursday will travel to Tajikistan and attend a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Dushanbe.

According to the Kremlin, participants in the summit will discuss preparations for joint celebrations in 2020 of the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.

The leaders will sign a number of multilateral documents on deepening cooperation in the humanitarian, law enforcement and military spheres.

The CIS was founded in 1991 as a regional association of former Soviet republics. It comprises Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
